***Review*** The Dead Girls' Dance (Morganville Vampires #2) by Rachel Caine

On The Back Of The Book

Claire has her share of challenges. Like being a genius in a school that favours beauty over brains; homicidal girls in her dorm, and finding out that her college town is overrun with the living dead. On the up side, she has a new boyfriend with a vampire-hunting dad. But when a local fraternity throws the Dead Girls' Dance, hell is really going to break loose.

Why did I choose this book?

I have this MONSTROUSLY HUGE TBR pile. I'm not joking. It takes up my room... and the living room. I'm REALLY not joking, I have issues. So anyway I figured it's time to get that poor pile down a bit and to read books that have been waiting for AGES... and Morganville have been waiting so patiently for YEARS. So I thought "it's time my pretties, you WILL be read." Then I laughed like the evil genius that I longed to be. Okay, I didn't but you know... I COULD HAVE!

What did I think of this book?

Well I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I actually enjoyed book 1... GO ME!! So I decided to read the rest of the series... (well I would've anyway but enjoying them is a definite bonus.) and the good news is I REALLY LIKED THIS ONE TOO!!!

Now I won't tell you that the book's about because that's what the synopsis is for but I will tell you that this is such a fun book to read. Not much thinking has to be involved and after reading a series of crime novels believe me I NEEDED a book like this.

Even though I feel that this is a fun novel, there's still plenty of action and danger and a hint of romance and that's enough to keep many people interested. I actually feel that this is one of the better vampire stories I've come across. Possibly because the vamps aren't all "look at me, I'm a walking disco ball and sex God all in one! Now become a soppy cow and devote your existence to worshipping me!!! <<< I really hate when you're reading a book and that happens.

I actually, genuinely think that Rachel Caine is a good writer, well she's my definition of one anyway and is definitely worth reading. That's not something I say often about vampire books either.

Was there anything I didn't like?

A few of the chapters felt too long. This is me nit picking by the way but I have a REALLY SHORT attention span... which could be why I write certain words in caps... I could easily make them italic but oh well. Other than that I really do feel this is an awesome book.

My Rating

I really liked the story and the characters, this world feels so solid to me and I really like that. However, I rarely give 5 stars and this just wasn't special enough for me to do that. But still it's an excellent book.

Would I recommend this?

YES!!! Forget Vampire Academy, Twilight, House Of Night and other vamp series' THIS IS THE ONE!!! I also like Strange Angels but that's besides the point
